Default 3.02 Status

For those eagerly awaiting 3.02 with proper CBuilder support, I now
have beta installers for Developer Edition (full source, all IDEs) and
DCU only installers for Delphi/Rad Studio[Delphi+CB] (not yet for
CBuilder personality only, thats being worked on).

I would very much like feedback from actual users, so if any of you who
either have the full source version, or DCU with Rad Studio (both
personalities) would like to test, please email support at nexusdb.com
with customer details, and I'll make the betas available.

The source changes for CBuilder support are complete (apart from
updating some demo projects). There's some work ongoing on nxServer
memory usage efficiency which should be ready over the weekend. New
release target earliest middle of the coming week.

For those of you who will get the beta installer:

Just remember that, for some reason (most probably a CodeGear bug in the linker/startup
code), you will need to add manually the Nexus BPI files that your project uses. We have
been looking for this since several months, but I haven't find a way to avoid this. It's a
PITA, but fortunately a small one, and you get used to just add the BPI files and stop
thinking about this ;-)

This happens to me at least since the NX2 days, at least since moving to CB2007. The same
happens with 2009 and 2010.

Other than that, NX3 seems to work fine with this 3 IDEs.

Regards,

Rodrigo Gómez

Could somebody advise an updae of the status of 3.02?

Anyway, I guess when you say "the new releaes target earliest middle of the
coming WEEK" on Sept 18, 2009, you actually mean "the new release target
earliest middle of the coming MONTH (s) "? :--P

Crossing fingers here... most likely I will start building installers
overnight. Then they'll be tested and released as they are ready. 2-3
days should see the full release done.

That was the release target at that time. Unfortunately, running our full test
suit (over 5000 automated test, over 100GB of test data, performing both
correctness and performance tests for over 24 hours) has shown certain
regressions. In addition, additional testing with CB2009/CB2010 has shown
further issues there which had to be corrected.

After making changes, in preparation for a new release, the test suit is ran
again which might show regressions caused by other fixes (the SQL engine is a
highly complex interconnected beast, and making a change in one place to fix
something can easily have unintended consequences for other cases).

In case of NX 3.02, both CB2009/CB2010 support and making sure that the release
is free of any know regressions took unfortunatly a number of unexpected test /
modify cycles.

At the end of the day, do you prefer an early release over one that's free of
known regressions?

Having an update is sufficient. I appreciate the testing being done.
