I've purchased my copy of NexusDB a week before RC3 came out, and almost
immediately discovered the problem with Blob Fields that was quickly fixed in RC3. I'm very excited about this new database, and thrilled with the prospect of moving my FF2 applications over to a fully supported and enhanced product. My question is to everyone that is currently using NexusDB in a production environment. First is there anyone that is using NexusDB in production, and are you pleased that you switched this early. Don't get me wrong. I'm committed to moving forward, and I'm convinced that this is the way to go, I'm just worried about the timing. Do I go now, or wait for later releases to happen. As I've monitored the newsgroup, it seems that there are not too many bugs being mentioned as much as training issues on how to correctly use the product, so I'm sensing that it may be time to make the switch. Thanks in advance for your help from what I believe may be one of the best newsgroups on the web. Paul Bainter |

Paul,
I've moved a very important production application, (converts PO's in an MS Access application to data in RC 4 Nexus tables and then to text files for importation as invoices in an accounting system). This app is working just fine, and with much more speed than the FF2 version. The app makes extensive use of blobs to hold the text, and RTF PO confirmations for viewing on screen. The greater blob efficiencies are evident! I'm not converting any others until I nail down the Report Builder and Rubicon parts. (Stefan posted his prelim RB component just recently). Most of the bugs have been relatively minor. So, I give Nexus a thumbs-up! As one of the "insiders" in Nexus, I have access to versions in an ongoing basis. Consequently, I've been putting stuff out in production (top RBS clients) since very early this year. However, what I've been putting out in production is always a bit "behind" what's actually under development here (for the standard reasons!). I simply do not have any further apps left in FF2. (I think I converted the last project in about March!) But given how little problems have been discussed here (with the usual caveat that I normally skip the SQL issues) I have just converted one of these to the latest snapshot and its being installed in production as we speak (that's with what should be RC5). The largest of my apps is also being upgraded to RC5 - I'm expecting that to be completed by about Thursday and to be tested in a controlled production site (their smallest office - just 12 client workstations) by the end of this week. If no issues pop up, they will probably convert to RC5 around the end of next week - and that's in their main site with 100 client workstations. My other projects (about a dozen of them) should all be upgraded to RC5 and be in production over the coming days. Personally, I'm hoping to have all my clients up with NexusDB RC5 by month's end. Maybe a bit ambitious, but just to assure you that I personally have seen nothing nasty in NexusDB to stifle my standard eagerness to be leading-edge rather than bleeding-edge! <g> Regards, Geoff, with his RBS developer hat on! |

There is a index change problem whith RC4 if you access distant data via
nxServer. Cursor move to top of table if you change index. My app RC4 compiled don't work well only because of this problem. It's in production now but I would have wait for RC5... Blob seem ok now and performance better than FF2. Geoff said he work with RC5. I realy wait for it ! -- Marc PLEYSIER - mp@solune.com Service technique Solune Informatique www.solune.com "Paul Bainter" <pbainter@mail.com> a écrit dans le message de news: 3f4171a0@wic040d.... > I've purchased my copy of NexusDB a week before RC3 came out, and almost > immediately discovered the problem with Blob Fields that was quickly fixed > in RC3.
