Default Nexus Portal in Terminal Services

Hi

Just a quick question: Does Nexus Portal work through a Terminal Services
window?
I've had support cases where I've needed to see what's happening on a
particular user's Terminal (with them still in it), but when trying to VNC
variants all I get is a black screen and/or I cannot interact with the
desktop.

....and no, I cannot get an account on their Terminal Server made up for
support handling

Cheers,

I'm not 100% sure what exactly you mean. That said, Nexus Portal uses a
gateway service through which all traffic is routed, so if you have this
service installed on any machine within that network and it is reachable from
outside (e.g. via internet or a VPN), then all the internal machines that have
a host runnning that is logged into that gateway will be visible and
controllable for you.

Check out the graphic at http://www.nexusdb.com/support/index.php?q=portal
which illustrates that quite well.

What I was trying to get at was I'd like a client to be able to request
remote support via Portal regardless of whether or not they are within a
thin client (Terminal Services) or a full desktop. If the client requests
remote support within the terminal services window I can control the client
terminal. Some customers have staff on dumb/thin terminals and I'd like to
be able to provide support directly to those terminals.

I see. To be honest with you I've not tried that, mainly due to lack of a
fitting environment for it. I'll see if we can get such an environment setup.
In general I would expect it to work without the mirror driver, not sure about
with it. If you have a test envrionment you can try it using the trial
download (http://www.nexusdb.com/support/index.php?q=portaltrial).

Default how does the host service work on Windows 7?

I have been looking at the code and it seems like the service
is spawning instances of itself in order to work as a service on windows
7.

Does this mean I can't have a pure service with no option for the user
to launch it? I also need to have the gateway embedded in the host for
a more of a VNC type point to point experiance, but if it's spawning new
instances of itself, that would mean another gateway would get spawned
as well correct?

I also noticed another full set of components in the service code and am
wondering if this is the reason I am having issues with the service
loading the config file. When running as a service I am having tons of
trouble getting it to connect to the gateway which is also running as a
service.

I've scheduled time from Monday onwards to go over the Win7 issues that
you reported and check them out. I'll make sure that they get addressed asap.
Sorry that I wasn't able to answer earlier.
