Default nxServer fatal error in connection to performing live backup

Hi, when we have followed up logs we have seen a number of cases with similar pattern in our production environment, where we get fatal server exceptions. Extracts both from the nxServer exception log and the client side exception log are attached. I am not sure if the client-side message "Object cannot be opened for exclusive use" is misleading or not, but my understanding is that TnxBackupController never should require exclusive access when taking a backup from the source database? Running version 4.5029 in production. Any feedback for how to deal with this is appreciated. Let me know if you need further information to follow up on this.

Best regards

I haven't looked at your file yet, but note that TnxBackupController
only requires exclusive access to its *target* database (not the source
database).

The backup application is the only one that uses the target database. And there is no concurrent access to it within the application either AFAIK.

I don't see the server side log attached, please paste in the relevant
callstack here for review.

Sorry for late reply, been out of office. It is in 'nxServerException extract.txt' which is attached to the original post.

There's a file with the client side exceptions, but perhaps I missed
the server one?

Sorry for another late reply, out of office again, this time due to sickness. This is weird, I clearly see two attachments in the original post and manage to download the one with the server exceptions in it as well. But let me try to upload it again.

Hi again, did you have a chance to look at the server exception log?

Is the nxServer.exe one that we provided? It appears to have failed in
Delphi's Parallel Programming Library. I would suggest trying to update
o the latest server version that may include updates to the PPL.

Hi, I have come around now to upgrading my dev environment to 4.6001, will evaluate and then continue with test and production environments further on.

Yes, we do use the prebuilt nxServer.exe.

I read the change log. You mention a PPL patch, and that looks like it was already in 4.5029, which is what we run in production and from where the crash came. Do you mean there are further PPL patches which are not mentioned in the change log for newer versions? (I could mention that we use Delphi 10.3.3 for building our own applications (which may include NexusDB components), but as said above, we do not build our own nxServer version, we use yours)

Another question as this relates to backup functionality: the change log for 4.5030 has this line:
Code:
- 0002444: [Documentation \ feature] nxBackup Live backup utility, enhanced to be useful for continuous backup scenarios (Eivind) - closed.
Where can I read about this? Is there new functionality in TnxBackupController, or is this just a documentation change?

Best regards

Magnus Oskarsson

P.S. I can't get e-mail notifications to work for this thread. Is this a known issue?
