Default Change Log in nxServer.EXE

Hello,

I noticed that the nxServer UI has a new "Change Log" entry in the TreeView on the left. But the panel on the right contains no settings, apart from activating this or not.

Is there some documentation for this feature ?

Very best regards,

Olivier

Hello again,

Having read your post, am I correct in understanding that the new "Change Log" feature is designed to prevent changes to the database structure (kind of setting a "structural" read-only lock) ?

Very best regards,

Olivier

That is correct.

As long as the change log is active, structural changes (creating, destroying,
restructuring, packing, and emptying tables) is locked for all persistent
tables.

This change log is not meant to be permanently active (if you need a permanent
log of changes to individual tables, there already is the audit log function).
It was specifically implemented for the requirements of a specific customer.

It is meant to enable to keep using a server in production, while a (many TB in
size) copy of the database is restructured separately, then in a short time
window, apply the change log to the restructured tables and replace the
production database.

It is being made available to all customers in case anyone else has a use for
it.
